Are steroids safe to use?
If you’re a baseball fan, you’ve probably heard of Aaron Judge. He’s a New York Yankees player who has been tearing up the baseball world with his power hitting abilities. He’s currently on pace to break Roger Maris’ record of 61 home runs in a season, and is doing so without the use of steroids. While some people are celebrating his accomplishment, others are wondering if he used performance-enhancing drugs to get there.
During my childhood, the steroid era defined baseball for me. It was a time of great success and great hope, but it also had some let-downs. For every slim and nimble Derek Jeter, there was a Jason Giambi with an impossible amount of bulk who could send the ball soaring. It was a scary era, and while many of the players were clean, I couldn’t help but feel some resentment at the way they used drugs to dominate the game.
Aaron Judge has been playing for the New York Yankees since he was drafted in the first round of the MLB draft in 2013. He’s on track to break an American League record for home runs this year and has been an instant sensation.
But just like other superstar Does Aaron Judge use steroids? athletes, he’s had his share of off-field drama. The 28-year-old was arrested in 2020 for DUI after a night of partying in New York City, and sources say his girlfriend played a role in that arrest. Samantha Bracksieck, who has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in exercise science, is reportedly an aspiring professor with an independent streak. She allegedly told police officers that her boyfriend plays baseball for the Yankees and even mentioned his name.
After her arrest, prosecutors dropped some of the charges, including an extreme DUI charge. But, despite the fact that she didn’t get any jail time and got off with just 10 days of time served, the incident was certainly a black mark on her career.
One caller to BT said that he doesn’t believe that Aaron Judge uses steroids, but it is hard for him to watch him chase the record because of the controversy surrounding the steroid era. BT agreed, but he also pointed out that it’s hard to fully trust any major league player after getting burned by so many players who appeared to be clean before using PEDS.
With 61 homers in 2021, Judge has a chance to establish himself as the most dominant home run hitter of his generation. He’s doing it without the use of banned drugs, and that is something that baseball fans should be able to celebrate. Hopefully, he can put the controversy of the steroid era behind him and become the face of the new baseball normal. That’s what the sport needs right now.
